The EGT Department of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology organised a three-day expedition to the Island of Ruhnu. During the fieldwork they studied chemical composition of the groundwater of Estonia’s deepest mineral water well, lectured the local schoolchildren about hydrogeology and carried out radon studies.

The Ruhnu mineral water well is 878 m deep, and was drilled already in1969 for the purpose of oil exploration. The groundwater deep below the ground surface is confined, therefore there is no need for a pump and the water discharges due to the pressure.
